Recently, Shenyang Sanland Mining Engineering Co., Ltd. completed the manufacturing, assembly and pre-delivery inspection of two ball mills — the MQY1518 (φ1500×1800 mm) and the MQY1824 (φ1800×2400 mm). Both units are painted and fitted with nameplates, with their girth gears, liners and accessories packed for transport.

Both mills follow the same process route. Plates, end cover and trunnion castings and pinion forgings are inspected before production. The shell is rolled, welded, fitted with flanges, inspected and stress-relieved; its flange faces and outer diameter are then machined on a large horizontal lathe to keep both ends concentric, followed by drilling of liner bolt holes and the manhole. In parallel, end covers and trunnions are turned on a vertical lathe and finished at the journals, and the two gear halves are joined, ground and hobbed. During assembly, covers and trunnions are mounted, the shell is aligned on turning rollers, the split girth gear is fitted, bearings are heat-shrink mounted and liners are installed.

This route determines performance. The hobbed girth gear and precisely machined journals deliver smooth, quiet transmission. Stress relief and overall machining secure shell roundness and end-to-end concentricity, so liners seat tightly and bolt holes align, reducing loosening and wear. The split gear can be assembled on site, liner bolts are fitted from outside the shell, and inspection doors are well positioned, shortening maintenance. With 55 kW and 132 kW drives and weights of 14.2 t and 21.5 t, the two mills cover applications from small concentrators to medium-sized plants.

Quality control covers incoming materials, welding, machining, assembly alignment and no-load running tests, with full inspection before dispatch. Delivering both mills together also shows Sanland’s ability to build multiple mill sizes in parallel.
